A Lifesaving Society program accredited by the Canadian Coast Guard.Federal legislation enacted through the Canadian Coast Guard has brought in major changes to the rules for operation of all watercraft. Compulsory certification for motorized boat (gas, electric, diesel, etc.) operators has been mandated to take effect between now and September 5, 2009, (based on age and boat size). For example, all operators of motorized craft under 4 metres must have been certified by April 1 2001.This is a 10-hour course dealing with all aspects of the safe operation of watercraft (regulations, rules and responsibilities of operation, buoys, beacons, construction, licencing, safety, emergencies, small craft and collision regulations, etc.). Certification cards are issued after achieving a 75% plus mark on the mandatory written exam. (Examinations are age and reading ability rated.) An optional Study Guide may be purchased during the course ($15.00).
