School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences Awards

The following academic and community awards for full-time students recognize achievement. Recipients are selected for these School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences awards -- students do not apply for these prizes.

 

  • Association of Ontario Land Surveyors Educational Foundation Award

    This award is presented to the student in the GIS- Applications Specialist Certificate Program who exemplifies leadership in project management.

 

  • Gary Clements Memorial Award

    Presented by the Student Association to the Geographic Information Systems - Cartographic Specialist student with the highest marks in Graphic Design I, II, III and Graphic Publishing.

 

  • Brenda Chambers Memorial Award

    Awarded to a graduating Ecosystem Management Program student who embodies Brenda's spirit and ecological commitment. This includes respect for self, others and the environment, demonstrates a positive attitude and enthusiasm towards life and learning.

 

  • Kawartha Field Naturalists' Award

    Presented to a graduating Fish and Wildlife Technologist student who submits the plant collection that demonstrates the most effort.

 

  • Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs Award

    Presented to a mature deserving Fish and Wildlife student with a high academic standing who has contributed to the program.

 

  • LOTEK Wireless Inc. Award

    Presented to a first year Fish and Wildlife student in second semester with the highest standing.

 

  • The Timber Harvesting/Integrated Resource Award (Team Award)

    For the best Integrated Resource/Timber Harvesting Plan in the Timber Harvesting course of the Forestry Program. This plan represents the incorporation of all environmental courses including aquatic, terrestrial, cultural, social and economic and strikes a working balance between all of the environments. The plan also illustrates the ability of a group to form a team and work effectively toward a common goal.

 

  • Canadian Forestry Equipment

    Presented to a Forestry student in recognition of the highest marks in third semester Forest Inventory.

 

  • John Harold Cathrae Memorial Award

    Presented to an outstanding first year Forestry student interested in conservation.

 

  • Otonabee Region Conservation Authority Award

    Presented to a top graduating student in the Environmental Technology (3-year) Program.

 

  • Canada-U.S. Walleye Tournament Award

    Presented to the student receiving the highest grade in the first semester course "Ecology and the Environment" studies.

 

  • City of Kawartha Lakes Award

    Presented to a student with the highest academic average in first year.

 

  • City of Kawartha Lakes Award

    Presented to a student with the highest academic average in second year.

 

  • City of Kawartha Lakes Award

    Presented to a student with the highest academic average in third year.

 

  • City of Kawartha Lakes Award

    Presented to the Parks and Forest Recreation Student with the highest mark in Plant Kingdom.

 

  • School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences Award - Outstanding Student

    Presented to the outstanding graduate in the School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences demonstrating academic achievement and significant contribution to the College community.

 

  • McLeod Prize in Surveying

    Presented to a student who, in any terms of surveying, produces quality original field notes and produced from those field notes a plot, that, in the opinion of the survey faculty, best represents the skill and attention that characterized Don McLeod's work. This award is sponsored by Sharon Smith, 1983 Geological Engineering Technology Graduate and former student of Don McLeod.

 

  • Van Amelsfoort Surveying Award

    Presented to a second year Forestry student with the highest overall average in surveying.

 

  • Frost Residence Fellowship Award (2)

    Presented to a Frost Resident who has participated in Residence Life, encouraged others to get involved, contributed in a positive manner to Residence Life, and created a sense of community within the Residence. The recipients are nominated and selected by their peers.

 

  • Lawrence Nesbit Memorial Award

    Sponsored by Kawartha/Haliburton Group of Ontario Land Surveyors. Presented to a student who contributes to their surveying class by showing the qualities of unselfishness, sincere friendliness and patience in helping their peers to persue and achieve their hopes and dreams no matter how long the road.

 

  • SGS Lakefield Research Limited Award

    Presented to a graduating Geotechnical Engineering Technology student with the highest mark from the courses Optical Mineralogy and Petrology, Extractive Mineralogy, Assay Methods and Applied Geochemistry.

 

  • OPSEU Local 352 9/11 Award

    Presented to the Natural Resource Law Enforcement student with high morale character, reliable, respected and valued as a team player, demonstrates good judgement and professionalism and supports classmates and others.

 

  • Outdoor Education Award

    Awarded to the graduating student who demonstrates commitment to and excellence in the field of outdoor education.

 

  • Industry Professional Award

    Presented to the student in Parks and Forest Recreation who has shown commitment to the program and their fellow students.

 

  • Lloyd Mainprize Memorial Horticultural Award

    Presented annually to a graduating Parks and Forest Recreation student exhibiting expertise in plant collection.

 

  • Boart Longyear Inc.

    Presented to the Resources Drilling and Blasting graduating student with the highest academic average in second year.

 

  • Creighton Rock Drill Ltd.

    Presented to the graduating Resources Drilling and Blasting student with the highest mark in Blasthole Drilling.

 

  • Lantech Drilling Inc. Award

    Presented to the graduating student in the Resources Drilling and Blasting Program who best demonstrates quality, professionalism and innovation in all aspects of his/her studies.

 

  • Ralph Snider Memorial Award

    Presented to the most improved student in second semester, demonstating general all-round proficiency and enthusiasm in Resources Drilling.

 

  • LAC Environmental Achievement Award

    Presented to a second year Environmental Technician student who demonstrates superior academic achievement in a selected number of courses and is pursuing technologist training.

 

  • Andy Matwichuk Award

    Presented to the graduating student in Terrain and Water with the highest academic standing in the Water Treatment and Pollution Control Course.

 

  • Nelson Tavares Memorial Award

    Presented by the Student Association to a first year Terrain and Water student achieving the highest academic standing in second semester and highest mark in Environmental Techniques.

 

  • Bartlett Tree Experts Award

    Presented to the graduating student in the Arboriculture Program who displays initiative, seeks excellence and demonstrates the perseverance needed to excel in the Arboriculture industry.

 

  • Davey Tree

    Presented to the graduating Arboriculture student achieving the highest overall academic standing in the program.

 

  • Canadian Institute of Geomatics

    Presented to a Geographic Information Systems - Cartographic Specialist student for Academic Excellence and Achievement.

 

  • Canadian Institute of Forestry

    Presented to a Forestry student for outstanding scholarship, sports and citizenship recorded throughout one's time spent in the program.

 

  • Women in Natural Resource Technology

    Presented to a female student who has completed her first year of studies and intends to continue. This award is based on academic achievement, contribution to campus life, exemplary role modelling as a professional and commitment to a career in natural resources.

 

  • Vice-President Academic

    Presented to a graduating student who has demonstrated overall academic excellence with a strong community involvement.

 

  • Lindsay Lions Club Award

    Presented to a student entering the graduating year of their program who has maintained an average of 70% or higher. This student is recognized for their service to the S.S.F.C. community and/or the City of Kawartha Lakes community and as having made a difference during their years at S.S.F.C.

 

  • Student Association Inc. Award

    Presented to a student with the highest academic average in first year.

 

  • Student Association Inc. Award

    Presented to a student with the highest academic average in second year.

 

  • Student Association Inc. Award

    Presented to a student with the highest academic average in third year.

 

  • Optimist Club of Lindsay Award

    Presented to a student contributing to community life in the area of youth work.

 

  • Ron Date Award (2)

    Presented to Geology student who has shown enthusiasm, interest and proficiency in the area of Applied Geology.

 

  • Robert Johnston Award

    Presented to the most dedicated and devoted student in the Natural Resources Law Program who has achieved improvements because of that devotion.

 

  • Ontario Conservation Officers Association

    Presented to the student who inspires and encourages classmmates, equally and to the best of their ability, while displaying a professional approach to studies in the Natural Resource Law Enforcement Program.

 

  • Ontario Federationo of Anglers and Hunters'

    Presented to a graduate of the Natural Resource Law Program who has achieved academic excellence and displayed committent to renewable resources and management and enforcement.

 

  • Ontario Parks Assocation Student Award of Recognition

    Presented to a student who has shown a commitment to the environment and has demonstrated dedication to this profession by respect for green space and our natural heritage.

 

  • Canada Institute of Mining, Metalurgy and Petroleum

    Presented to a graduating student who has exhibited good academic and practical skills.

 

  • Ontario Groundwater Association Award

    Presented to the graduating student in the Resources Drilling and Blasting Program with the highest mark in Water Well Drilling.

 

  • SGS Lakefield Research Limited - Well Master Technical Achievement Award

    This award is presented each year to a student in the Environmental Technician or the Terrain and Water Technology Program who best exemplifies the true spirit of an Environmental Technician. This individual must demonstrate a keen interest in the environmental discipline, as well as abilities in the areas of resourcefulness, application of technical field skills, and good judgement while also maintaining a sound academic standing.

 

  • Environmental Technologist Advisory Committee Award

    Presented to a third year graduate determined by the graduating class.

 

  • The Brian McFadzen Award for Academic Excellence in Environmental Issues

    Presented to the student with the highest mark in Environmental Issues.

 

  • Woodmizer Canada Award

    Presented to a student in the Forestry Program who has achieved the highest mark in the Forest Products and Utilization course. The student must be a graduate of the program.

 

  • Natural Resources Law Enforcement Alumni Award

    Awarded to alumni of the Natural Resources Law Enforcement Program who made a significant contribution to the field of natural resources law enforcement.

 

  • The Archie Watt Groundwater Excellence Award

    Presented to an alumni of the Frost of Sir Sandford Fleming College who has excelled in their field.

 

  • Community Development & Health Centre Award

    Presented to the 1st year Early Childhood Education student with the highest academic standing.

 

  • Danny Fitzgerald Memorial Award

    Presented to a Fish & Wildlife Technician graduate who has demonstrated outstanding proficiency and an enthusiasm for a career in the Fish & Wildlife field. The program faculty/staff will make this selection.

 

  • Early Childhood Education Faculty Award

    Presented to the 1st year Early Childhood Education student who has shown leadership, team work, strong academic achievements and is a good role model.

 

  • Foster & William A. Hewitt Memorial Scholarship

    Awarded to an Ecosystem Management graduating student with the highest overall mark and who has demonstrated excellent stewardship in ecosystem management during their course of study in Ecosystem Management at Fleming, and is seeking post diploma education at a recognized University or College

 

  • Frost IDS Faculty Award

    Presented to the student with the highest combined mark in Common First Semester "Communicating Technical Information" and "Applied Mathematics in Natural Resource Sciences".

 

  • Michael A. Fraser Award of Merit

    This award is presented annually to a Graduating Ecosystem Management Student who has shown outstanding dedication and perseverance towards their personal growth and academic success while facing many personal challenges.

 

  • Social Service Worker Faculty Award

    Presented to the best all round first year student of the Social Service Worker Program.

 

  • Victoria Land & Water Stewardship Council Award

    Presented in recognition of a third year Ecosystem Management Technology students' demonstrated commitment to the stewardship of our environment.

 

  • School of Community Development & Health, Frost Campus Award

    Outstanding Student - Presented to the outstanding graduate in the School of Community Development & Health, Frost Campus demonstrating academic achievement and significant contribution to the College community.
