Fleming College Alumni Association announces six nominees for the Ontario Premier's Awards
The Fleming College Alumni Association is proud to announce that six distinguished alumni will be representing Fleming College at the Premier’s Awards for Ontario College Graduates.
The awards honour the important social and economic contribution college graduates make to Ontario and throughout the world. Nominees must demonstrate outstanding career success related to their college experience and have made a significant contribution to their community.
The awards will take place on Monday February 23, 2009 at the Westin Habour Castle in Toronto.
This year Fleming will be well represented by nominees in six categories:
Kim Reid: Curator, Peterborough Museum and Archives

Kim began her career as a placement student at the Peterborough Museum and Archives and worked her way up to Curator. With a passion for art, history and her community Kim gives back every day whether it be championing for travelling exhibits, assisting in the delivery of the Museum Management and Curatorship program at Fleming College, or helping to organize education programs. She is an active volunteer spearheading the Underwater Archaeology Committee, working with United Way and many others. She is also an inductee into the Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School Hall of Fame.
Murad Younis: President, Chief Pharmacist Murad Younis Healthcare Inc.

Murad's business includes Westmount Pharmacy and Seamless Care Drug Therapy, services that provide personalized medi-pouches to clients with multiple presciptions as well as intravenous drug administration that helps people to stay in their homes while under treatment. His was the first pharmacy to extend his hours and open 365 days a year. He worked tirelessly on his own for several years to accomplish his dream. He holds many specialized certifications and is active on countless committees in the area including Central East LHIN, the End of Life Committee, Canadian Diabetes Association and Rotary.
Kimberly Desjardins: Owner/Designer/Advertising Specialist, mikandi and Center of Attention Promotions

mikandi is a designer fashion company designed to reach college and university students as well as young urban professionals. Her designs include an environmentally friendly line consisting of fashions made out of 100% organic cotton, bamboo, soybean and recycled post consumer products. Center of Attention Promotions offers environmentally friendly silk screening processes that avoid PVC’s, phthalates and high process water and energy requirements. Kimberly is involved in many volunteer activities including Kawartha Lakes Wakeboard Open, the YWCA Freedom Walk, Women's Business Network and the Chamber of Commerce.
Murray Rodd: Chief of Police, Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service

Murray has worked with the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service for over 25 years, moving through the ranks including Patrol Sergeant, Community Services/Training Officer and Inspector. Murray was recently sworn in as Chief of Police. Murray was named Police Officer of the Year in 1996 and has had a distinguished tenure with the Blackdown Army Cadet Training Centre. He is an active volunteer giving back through several committees including Chair of the Board of Governors at Fleming Murray has worked with the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service for over 25 years, moving through the ranks including Patrol Sergeant, Community Services/Training Officer and Inspector. Kerri Davies: Executive Director, Royal Gardens Retirement Residence

Kerri is the Executive Director of Royal Gardens Retirement Residence and will become Executive Director of Peterborough's newest retirement home, Canterbury Gardens when it opens in 2009. Kerri found her passion for working with older adults at sixteen when she began part time as an aid in a local nursing home. She went back to school as a married mother of three to pursue her nursing education. Kerri is also the creator of "Possibilities" a unique business that offers programs of general interest and personal development. She is active in Rotary, and advocates for the disabled in Peterborough.
Nicholas Cradock–Henry, PhD Candidate, University of Canterbury, New Zealand
- GIS: Cartographic Specialist, 2002

Nicholas worked for Canadian Geographic Magazine and Silva Ecosystem Consulting as a GIS Analyst before accepting a position teaching in the Department of Geography at Thompson Rivers University, where he developed the department's first GIS course. Nicholas was awarded a prestigious scholarship to pursue his PhD at the University of Canterbury, where his research is making a practical difference to planning, and risk assessment at the regional level. Nicholas is an Associate Editor of the journal "New Zealand Natural Sciences" and is actively involved with the University of Canterbury's Science Outreach program, educating high school students about climate change.
